.....Desaturate tool is useful for making colors stand out and other areas fade to monotone. I used the pen tool

to map out the area around the color item, then used feathering to soften the edges of the choice area.

I did my normal soft and sharp layerings, then made a duplicate layer of the color layer to desaturate it.

That gives me the freedom to choose the opacity for each layer.
