original layer as if to work on that layer only. At the top tool bar, press Image, Mode, Lab Color. (do not merge) Select channels palette

and press the second layer called Lightness. The image will go monotone, no worries, and now press top of tool bar filter, Sharpen, Unsharp mask.

Amount 350%, Radius .04, Threshold 0 Press OK.

Go back to layers palette and turn back to RGB under Image, Mode, RGB. (do not merge). Save File. You can add an adjustment layers

after this if you choose. You will not have to change anything else if your image was well lighted, captured, composed and color corrected.

Save the original as a PSD file if possible, You can save it as a JPG later to make it smaller for the web or printing at most image print shops.

Roll the mouse over the eye to see the difference without and with sharpening. I also (MASK) the sharp layer and (BRUSH) in the areas I want selectively sharp.
